Try the difference Japanese Village's famous Teppan-yaki makes for large groups

Have you ever been in a large group at a restaurant and kept waiting for your food to arrive?

You see diners who ordered after you get their food first.

You want another drink but it’s impossible to get your server’s attention.

And when your food does finally come, it’s either cold or overdone.

There are many advantages to letting Japanese Village prepare their famous Teppan-yaki for your next group dining experience. Whether you’ve never tried it before or you’ve been coming for years, here are just a few reasons why we think you should try it:

  • Food preparation: Restaurant food service for large groups can be a crapshoot from a kitchen perspective. Preparing multiple courses for lots of people takes time, coordination and space. Only so much room exists in a kitchen to lay out and plate the food, no matter how busy it is.

During peak periods of the day, multiple groups arrive and food needs to be prepared at the same time. Only so many staff can be stationed in the kitchen at once, which has become even more important because of COVID-19 health restrictions.

Teppan-yaki at Japanese Village is prepared differently. When it comes to space, each customer table is the cook’s working area. Your food is cooked in front of you on a long, flat grill (also sometimes called a Hibachi). The busier it is, the more tables we have available (i.e. space is opened for the cook to use without having to be concerned about other customers). Each table with a grill is suitable for cooking up to 12 guests, and we are only currently able to seat six, so there is never a lack of preparation space.

  • Freshness: Cooking everything fresh to order in a kitchen with limited space and people means that the busier it is, the longer food will take to prepare. Simplified by pre-cooking food or serving heat-to-serve dishes, the quality is often sacrificed. Most restaurants have steam tables of pre-prepared food that is simply assembled to order or finished on the grill and then assembled, like a buffet, but done by cooks in the kitchen. What this means is that dishes will usually not be cooked to optimal temperatures and it undergoes extended hot-holding or reheating processes.

At Japanese Village, we pride ourselves in the quality and freshness of our food, which is cooked fresh-to-order at the table. Only our soup, salad and rice are prepared in advance. All of the meats and vegetables are cooked in front of you, served hot and never reheated. Customers are even given an opportunity to try their steak first and see if it’s cooked to their desired temperature before being served in its entirety.

  • Service: The busier we are, the more chefs we have. The kitchen is never overcrowded because each chef is at his or her table, cooking for one group at a time. That means your chef is completely dedicated to you and your group. Compared to a kitchen line where a limited number of chefs can be allocated many tasks at once, at Japanese Village we can have as many cooks as we have tables without it ever being overcrowded.
From the server’s perspective, they are also focused on you. They deliver your small plates and bowls of soup, salad, and rice. We believe this gives better customer service as they have more time to ensure you have what you need and can provide more attention to their tables overall.

  • Special attention: Large group outings often tend to have a special purpose - usually a celebration of some kind. These occasions call for a special setting and Japanese Village is unique compared to other restaurants; the chef prepares your food in front of you and your group and provides an entertaining, Instagram-worthy show.

In a typical restaurant, the staff may engage guests to some degree, but they often have many other diners and duties to attend to. Our chefs stay at each table for approximately 30 minutes and their goal is to entertain you while your food is being prepared. The show also provides a great diversion for the group if there are impatient kids or a lull in the conversation, as the chef will invariably pick up the slack. We also unashamedly sing (however off-key) happy birthday for birthday guests and makes sure they feel acknowledged and celebrated.

  • Great value for your money: An adult multi-course meal which includes a starter and an entrée (with kids’ meals at a very low price-point) and the added value of the exclusive services of your own chef is a great price, starting at $31 per person. With unlimited rice and sauce, it’s virtually impossible to leave hungry.

Why not let us treat you to an amazing Teppan-yaki for your next large group dining experience? We know you’ll see the difference and your friends will think you’re a rockstar for giving them an amazing dinner AND a show.
